This summer, a group of 9 optometry students and 1 vision science student from the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science joined a medical mission in Jamaica with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) alongside Alliance of Jamaican and American Humanitarians (AOJAH).

Berkeley students helped run this year’s clinic from June 9th to 15th, 2024. OD students had the opportunity to pre-screen patients, perform refractions and address patient’s medical concerns alongside doctors (some who previously graduated from Berkeley as well). Patients were prescribed and given glasses, as well as drops to help with progressive diseases like glaucoma. In total, the VOSH team of approximately 65 volunteers provided care at 8 different sites and ended their last day serving staff from Hotel Bahia.

A special thank you to all of our student volunteers!
