Visit from Wenzhou Medical University

Wenzhou visit.
Leaders from China’s top optometry school visit to exchange insights on US and Chinese training models.

Last Friday, May 2nd, we had the pleasure of welcoming a small group of optometric educators from Wenzhou Medical University (WMU), the leading institution for optometry in China. The group stopped by our school en route to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) annual meeting to meet with Dean Sharon Bentley and Dr. Maria Liu, and to learn more about optometric education and professional pathways in the United States.

The visit included a brief tour and discussion comparing the structure of optometric training in the US and China, as well as the diverse career opportunities available after graduation.

Among the visitors was Dr. Hao Chen, Executive Dean of the School of Optometry and Ophthalmology at WMU and Deputy Director of the Affiliated Eye Hospital of WMU. In addition to his medical training in China, Dr. Chen earned his OD from the New England College of Optometry (NECO) in 2004 and plays a key role in international collaborations in optometric education.
