Transgender Awareness Week

Trans Awareness Week.

By Karen Villegas

This week, November 13-19th, is Trans Awareness Week!

Transgender Awareness week is an occasion to educate the public about who transgender people are, the discrimination and violence that this community faces, and to advocate and highlight important initiatives for this group. November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance, which began in 1999 in memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. It is a day to honor the memory and lives of transgender folks who were lost due to acts of anti-transgender violence.
