Student Innovator Award Winner

Student Innovator Award.
Muhammad Muhanna’s project, IOP Insight, was recognized for its potential to advance data-driven glaucoma care.

We are pleased to announce this year’s winner of the Berkeley Student Innovator Award competition. Congratulations to Muhammad Muhanna! Presenting remotely from Morocco, his project, “IOP Insight: Integrating Home Intraocular Pressure Monitoring with Electronic Health Records to Enable Data-Driven Glaucoma Care,” was recognized for its potential to transform glaucoma management through data integration. Muhammad will receive a $5,000 scholarship to further develop his idea.

We also congratulate finalists YuYi Lu, Annie Zhou, Monica Do, and Ashley Jian for their exceptional ideas and presentations. All of the final presentations demonstrated scholarly depth and entrepreneurial vision. This program advances our mission to develop future leaders in vision care by encouraging students to reimagine the practice of optometry and vision science.

Thanks to our panel judges, Dr. John Flanagan, Dr. Chris Wildsoet, and Ron Kemper of VSP, for their thoughtful evaluation and engagement with the student presentations. This competition is supported by VSP through Jobson’s Rick Bay Foundation for Excellence in Eyecare Education, whose partnership continues to strengthen student innovation. We also thank Miranda Hamilton in the Dean’s Office for her excellent coordination of this year’s program.
