Title
Alumni Board Member
Class of 1982
Rosemary Melrose
Dr. Rosemary Melrose is a proud member of the Berkeley Optometry Class of ’82. Along with her husband, Bob (also Class of ’82), she joined Drs. Craig Hisaka and Judy Prima at their Stockton practice. Over many years, the practice has grown to include 15 optometrists using an overhead-sharing model of partnership. During Dean Flanagan’s tenure, Brookside Optometric Group has been chosen as the site for the first ever Private Practice Rotation for selected 2nd and 3rd year interns.
At her private practice, Dr. Melrose divides her time between patient care and administrative duties. As a managing partner, she concentrates on Personnel and Staffing of their 40-employee team. As a general practitioner, Dr. Melrose enjoys the variety of patients she encounters, from the very young to the young at heart.
Her current civic activities include support of Women’s Basketball at University of the Pacific and the Red Rhino Orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Melrose was thrilled to take a trip to Africa where she was able to both meet the children at the orphanage and sit amongst the mountain gorillas of Rwanda. She and her husband enjoy kayaking in the waterways and mountain lakes of California.
In addition to being an alumna, Dr. Melrose served as an Assistant Clinical Instructor for 8 years and originated a clinically-oriented lecture class for 3rd year interns. As a student, she investigated color vision defects induced by glaucoma and diabetes under future Dean Tony Adams.
Dr. Melrose is honored to serve on the Alumni Board, and particularly likes to advocate on behalf of private practice incorporating recent graduates.
