Kristine M. Eng
Dr. Kristine M. Eng graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1998, but she has been working at Orinda Optometry Group since she was in junior high school. She attended Orinda Schools K-12 before receiving her bachelors degree from UC Davis and then going on to Berkeley’s graduate program. Dr Eng is TPA Certified, which allows her to treat eye diseases with oral and topical medications, Glaucoma Certified, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
Dr. Eng is Vice President of the UC Berkeley School of Optometry Alumni Board, active member of the American Optometric Association, and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is a Charter member of Women of Vision, Past-President of the Bay Area Optometric Council, and Past-President of the Alameda-Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society. She also served as Membership Chair for the California Optometric Association, as well as served on the American Optometric Association’s Membership Committee. Over the years she has enjoyed mentoring many students interested in healthcare and pre-optometry in her office.
In 2016, Alameda/Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society awarded Dr. Eng Optometrist of the Year. In 2005 she was named the American Optometric Association’s Young Optometrist of the year, just 7 years after graduating and an award bestowed upon only one individual each year. In 2006 she was nationally recognized as one of Vision Monday’s 50 Most Influential Women in Optometry.
Dr. Eng lives in Orinda with her husband Michael T. Smith and their children Pierson and Anarose who attend Sleepy Hollow Elementary School. Over the years she has enjoyed volunteering in various capacities in her children’s classroom as well as within the elementary school volunteer structure. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Sleepy Hollow Community Outreach Program. In her free time she enjoys skiing, golfing, and traveling with her family.
