This year, Dr. Ruth Shoge and Morgan McClure welcomed 73 undergraduate students to the world of Optometry via the 2025 Opto–Camp program sponsored by VSP. Over the course of five days, these students learned more about what it takes to become an optometrist, how to apply to optometry school, and what opportunities they had after receiving an OD degree.
Campers also participated in a competition to solve real world challenges facing the field of Optometry. The winning group, SCOPE: Students’ Clinical Opportunity for Preparation and Experience, proposed a student-led pipeline program to introduce grade school students with hands on and problem based learning opportunities to get them excited about the field. We would like to congratulate all the students completing the program, and thank Ron Kemper from VSP for his continued support of Opto–Camp!
