Program Goals and Objectives
To meet our mission, the following goals and objectives (MGOs) are specific to ensuring a professional optometric degree program whose graduates possess the attributes, knowledge, skills and ethical values required for independently practicing contemporary optometry, in compliance with ACOE Standard 1.2.
Goal 1
To advance professional optometric education in order to produce outstanding clinicians whoare trained in culturally responsive, contemporary optometry.
Objectives:
1.1 Provide excellence in didactic and clinical teaching
1.2 Ensure curriculum renewal to reflect the latest in research and clinical science
1.3 Offer robust research opportunities and training
Goal 2
To advance evidence based clinical practice and ensure excellence in patient care utilizing campus and community based teaching clinics, externship opportunities, and residency programs.
Objectives:
2.1 Provide clinical facilities and equipment that support contemporary primary and specialty eye and vision care to a diverse patient base
2.2 Ensure externship opportunities to augment on campus clinical experiences
2.3 Maintain an accredited comprehensive residency program
2.4 Provide continuing education to support evidence based practice and teaching
2.5 Integrate translational and clinical research into clinical practice
Goal 3
To ensure a diverse and inclusive community of students, staff, and faculty who embrace our values of excellence, curiosity, collaboration, and engagement, and produce future leaders in optometry and vision science.
Objectives:
3.1 Recruit and retain a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty
3.2 Prioritize student debt reduction in philanthropic initiatives
3.3 Provide opportunities to develop leadership skills
3.4 Build community by celebrating our traditions and achievements
