For 100 years, Berkeley’s School of Optometry & Vision Science has produced innovators and pioneers in the field. Now, with a century-long legacy of leading the way in groundbreaking research, clinical training, and unparalleled education in optometry and vision science, the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science is poised to redefine the role of vision care, the impact of clinical and basic vision research, and the profession of optometry.

The Our Vision, Our Future campaign is the final $25 million component of the $100 million campaign initiated by the transformational $50 million gift from the Wertheim Family Foundation. Our campaign is an investment that will fulfill our bold vision for a forward-thinking transformation in the teaching and training of those who deliver vision care and push the boundaries of discovery and innovation.

Our Priorities

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science is uniquely positioned to transform optometry and vision science. Our potential to drive research innovation and discovery is far-reaching. Our primary care clinics and our wide-range of specialty clinics, which address areas such as myopia control, medical optometry, specialty contact lenses, pediatrics, sports vision, traumatic brain injury, low vision, vision therapy, and neurorehabilitation, will continue to develop and provide outstanding clinical care.

Focus Areas

New Emeryville Eye Care Center

Plans are underway to build a new eye care center that will include a new outpatient clinic and academic center that will nearly double campus clinical capacity, expand opportunities for world-class education and research, and advance an exciting new model for integrated pediatric optometric care. Planned opening is 2025.
