Last week on October 19th, Dr. Herbert Wertheim visited our school to receive the Builders of Berkeley Award, and to see our new school sign in front of Minor Hall!

Herbert and Nicole Wertheim’s names were added to the list of leading benefactors, which are engraved into the granite walls of the Builders of Berkeley Monument, located on the Doe Library Terrace. The monument was created in 2003 to honor our university’s leading benefactors. To be included on its granite walls, a donor’s lifetime giving has to be valued at $1 million or more in today’s dollars.

Last year, The Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Family Foundation pledged a historic $50 million to the UC Berkeley School of Optometry & Vision Science, the largest gift ever to be received by a school of optometry in the country. To honor the landmark gift, the school was named the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science.

Congratulations and thank you, Dr. Wertheim!
