Dr. Mutti Receives Prentice Award

For significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge through research in the visual sciences.

At the 2025 Academy Meeting in Boston, Berkeley Optometry Hall of Fame member Donald O. Mutti, OD, PhD, FAAO received this year’s Charles F. Prentice Medal and Lecture Award. The Charles F. Prentice Medal is the Academy’s top award at the annual meeting, presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge through research in the visual sciences.

In their Fall 2025 Newsletter, AAO recognized Dr. Mutti’s award: “Dr. Mutti’s most significant accomplishment is his detailed description of the role of the crystalline lens during emmetropization and the development of myopia. That discovery would not have been possible without his inventions that enabled the measurement of the crystalline lens – a device that performs video photometry, which enabled the measurement of anterior and posterior lens curvature in the 5,000 children who participated in the CLEERE study. The CLEERE Study parent-reported survey data led to the first report, based on longitudinal evidence, that more time spent outdoors protected against the development of juvenile-onset myopia.” Congratulations to Dr. Mutti!
