Dr. Day Selected as Fulbright Scholar

Dr. Day.
Bringing Berkeley’s low vision expertise to a global stage through a Fulbright initiative in Taiwan.

Sherry Day, OD, FAAO has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar for 2026-27. Dr. Day is an alumna of Berkeley Optometry’s Residency Program in Low Vision and also received her Bachelors in Science from UC Berkeley. “The Fulbright Program is the US Government’s flagship international exchange initiative. It advances knowledge and innovation, fosters solutions to complex global challenges, and promotes peaceful relations between the United States and other nations,” writes Jordanna Enrich, Director, Fulbright U.S. Scholar’s Program, Institute of International Education.

Dr. Day’s project is titled, “Optimizing Functional Vision, Regaining Hope and Independence, Enhancing Quality of Life for People with Vision Loss in Taiwan.” Dr. Day writes, “On the rise globally, vision impairment (VI) significantly impacts quality of life and is linked to mental health, employment, and educational challenges. In Taiwan, awareness and access to low vision rehabilitation (LVR) is hindered by lack of practice guidelines, referral standards, professional training, and insurance coverage. This Fulbright project aims to establish a sustainable LVR training program and comprehensive center at National Taiwan University Hospital, adapting U.S. best practices to local needs. It will foster interdisciplinary care, build local professional capacity, and promote awareness to empower people with VI to live independent, productive, purposeful lives.”

Dr. Day currently serves as the Section Leader of Vision Care and Vision Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center. Help us in congratulating Dr. Day on this prestigious award!
