The California Optometric Association’s (COA) House of Delegates took place in Irvine, CA from February 9-10, 2024. As part of the annual meeting, several alumni and faculty from the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science were presented with awards and leadership positions on the COA board.
- Dr. Christopher Gee (OD ’06) was sworn in as COA president.
- Dr. Mika Moy (OD, ’97) continues to serve on the COA Board of Trustees.
- Dr. Britney Kitamata-Wong (OD, ’16) received a Young OD of the Year Award.
- Dr. Celia Gong (Berkeley residency program, ’18) and current clinical faculty received a Young OD of the Year Award.
In other news, the COA Board met with California Lt. Governor, Eleni Kounalakis to discuss issues important to optometry. Dr. Moy was able to meet Dr. Colin Chu, who is a prominent donor to the Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry & Vision Science, and recently made a generous donation in support of our new satellite campus in Emeryville. Lastly, best of luck to alum Dr. Bob Theaker, who is running for American Optometric Association trustee this year!
