Description: David Grant Medical Center Optometry Clinic

Travis AFB has a busy optometry clinic within a regional medical center setting. Patients seen by the Optometry Clinic are primarily routine exams and contact lens services but include a lot of diabetics, acute and therapeutic cases as well. Patients are drawn from active duty, family of active duty, and retired Department of Defense populations. Age range is from infant to geriatric. Full-scope optometric care is delivered within the clinic and necessary ancillary testing and consults are coordinated/ordered by Optometry as needed. Because David Grant Medical Center is a regional medical center, most patient care is available in-house.

Interested students may have an opportunity to observe surgical cases, both refractive and cataract surgeries performed by our Ophthalmology Department. Additionally, we have an agreement with our Hyperbaric Medicine Department to allow interested students to tour their facility.

Facility Overview

  • David Grant Medical Center is a state-of-the-art medical facility serving 750,000 military beneficiaries in the eight western states. The facility is divided into three patient zones-inpatient units, diagnostic and treatment areas, and outpatient clinics. The medical center offers a complete range of medical, surgical, and dental services including magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine and a world-class hyperbaric medicine service. An active clinical investigations program as well as extensive post-graduated training programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, and health care administration supports these services.
