On June 30th, VSP and the Poston Family celebrated the legacy of Dr. Marvin R. Poston with the installation of an original bronze sculpture by artist, Zoe Dufour, at the VSP Vision Headquarters in Rancho Cordova, CA.

During the reception, Michael Guyette, CEO of VSP, surprised Marlene Bell, daughter of Dr. Poston, with a replica of the sculpture for her and her family to enjoy in their home. Dr. Poston, aptly regarded as a visionary for optometry and a mentor to many, was the first Black optometrist to graduate from Berkeley Optometry. He was a co-founder of VSP, is a member of the Berkeley Optometry Hall of Fame, and also had a vineyard in Calistoga that still bears his name and produces great wine!

Additional distinguished alumni in attendance were Drs. Clyde Oden and Vicki Hughes, the latter who provided a touching tribute about being mentored by Dr. Poston and showed the audience the first pair of glasses he prescribed her while she was a student at Berkeley!

It was an honor to meet Marlene and her family in person as well as many in the VSP family who clearly continue to be inspired by and uphold Dr. Poston’s vision and values. We are grateful for Dr. Poston’s legacy and the continued support his family and VSP continue to provide for members of our community.
