The first-ever Big Game Tailgate under Dean Flanagan’s tenure brought together a spirited crowd of alumni, students, and their families in a celebration of Cal pride. Alums from several generations returned to campus, shared memories, and provided encouragement to our 4th year students. The event was a festive affair, where laughter and stories flowed as freely as the beer and wine, which were used to wash down haute cuisine provided by Top Dog, a quintessential Berkeley favorite. Despite torrential pre-game rains, attendees’ enthusiasm remained undampened, creating a memorable kickoff to the day.
As the rain cleared and the sun peeked through, the excitement shifted to the field for what would become one of the most thrilling games in recent Big Game history. The Bears staged an electrifying comeback, securing the victory and ensuring that the coveted axe stays in Berkeley for another year. From braving the rain to celebrating the triumph, the Big Game Tailgate was a memorable day of connection and Cal spirit.
