Tracy Nguyen Salgado, OD ’17, welcomed baby Leia last summer. Since graduating she has worked with fellow alumni Drs. Brent Chinn and David Redman at Precision Eye Care, and involved herself with the SCCOS as a Trustee for Division of Communications.
It’s Theaker Time
Bob Theaker, OD ’91, is the new 2020 national legislation chair for the AOA! As chair of the Federal Relations Committee, Dr. Theaker works on legislation and regulation issues relating to optometry, and promotes the profession at the national level. Bob has also served as the COA President, President of Rotary, and still finds time to practice optometry with his partner in life/love/vision, Dr. Elizabeth Anderson, at Hollister Vision Center.
B. Weissman Gets Research Award
Congratulations to Barry Weissman, OD ’72, PhD ’79, who was awarded the 2019 Dr. Richard Hemenger Faculty Research Award at the Southern California College of Optometry of the Marshall B Ketchum University, in recognition of the quality, significance, impact, and relevance to optometry of his research contributions. Dr Weissman joined the SCCO/MBKU faculty in 2012 following his retirement after 33 years on the faculty of the Stein Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Hemenger was an outstanding teacher and nationally respected visual scientist.

Our hearts go out to the families and friends of longtime faculty member Darrell Carter, PhD ’57, and Manuel Lopez, OD ’62, the first Latino mayor of Oxnard, CA.
