The following is a list of recommended courses at this institution that will fulfill the minimum prerequisites for Berkeley Optometry. Advanced upper-division courses in these subjects may be substituted for any of the lower division courses listed below. Courses have to be taken for a letter grade. Courses for which AP credit was received may be counted as long as they are listed on your college transcript. Our office has updated these courses to the best of our knowledge based upon the school catalog.

  • General Chemistry (Lecture and Lab): CHEM 14A, 14B, 14BL, 14C, 14CL or 20A, 20B, 20L, 30A, 30AL
  • Organic Chemistry (Lecture and Lab): CHEM 14D or CHEM 30B, 30BL
  • Biochemistry (Lecture only, Lab preferred): CHEM 153A
  • General Biology (Lecture and Lab): LIFESCI 1, 2, 3, 3A or 7A, 7B, 7C, LIFESCI 23L
  • General Physics (Lecture and Lab): PHYSICS 5A, 5B, 5C, or PHYSICS 6A, 6B, 6C or PHYSICS 1A, 4AL, 1B, 4BL, 1C
  • Anatomy (Lecture only, Lab strongly recommended): PHYSCI 13 or PHYSCI 107
  • Human Physiology (Lecture and Lab): PHYSCI 3 or PHYSCI 166 or PHYSCI 111A, 111L
  • Microbiology (Lecture only, Lab optional): MIMG 10 or MIMG 101
  • Calculus: MATH 3A or MATH 31A or Equivalent
  • Statistics: STAT 10 or STAT 13 (preferred) or PSYCH 100A
  • Reading and Comp: ENGL 4W, two quarters of any class with a ‘W’ or Equivalent
  • Psychology: PSYCH 10 or Equivalent
