The following is a list of recommended courses at this institution that will fulfill the minimum prerequisites for Berkeley Optometry. Advanced upper-division courses in these subjects may be substituted for any of the lower division courses listed below. Courses have to be taken for a letter grade. Courses for which AP credit was received may be counted as long as they are listed on your college transcript. Our office has updated these courses to the best of our knowledge based upon the school catalog.

- General Chemistry with lab CHEM 1A, CHEM 1B/M, CHEM 1C/N
- Organic Chemistry with lab Any of the following (1 quarter): Chem 108A/L, 108B/M, 110/L
- General Biology with lab BIOL 20A, BIOE 20B, BIOE 20C, and BIOL 20L
- General Physics with lab PHYS 5A/L, 5B/M, and 5C/N; or 6A/L, 6B/M, and 6C/N
- Biochemistry BIOL 100
- Microbiology METX 119
- Immunology BIOL 111A
- Anatomy with lab UCSC does not offer Anatomy courses this year. Examples of recommended courses at local community colleges and accredited four-year institutions include: Cabrillo College: BIO-4 and BIO-4L
- Physiology with lab BIOL 130/L
- Calculus Any of the following (1 quarter): Math 11A, 11B, 22
- Statistics AMS 5 or 7
- Psychology PSYC 1
- Reading and Comprehension Any 3 courses from the Writing Program
