The following is a list of recommended courses at this institution that will fulfill the minimum prerequisites for Berkeley Optometry. Advanced upper-division courses in these subjects may be substituted for any of the lower division courses listed below. Courses have to be taken for a letter grade. Courses for which AP credit was received may be counted as long as they are listed on your college transcript. Our office has updated these courses to the best of our knowledge based upon the school catalog. - General Chemistry: CHEM 1A-1C, 1AL-1CL or CHEM 2A-2C, 2AC-2CC
- Organic Chemistry: CHEM 109A, 6AL
- Biochemistry: CHEM 112A or 142A or MCDB 108A
- General Biology: MCDB 1A, 1AL, EEMB 2-3, 2L-3L
- Calculus: MATH 3A or 34A
- General Physics: PHYS 6A-C, AL-CL (preferred) or PHYS 3-5, 3L-5L
- English: Any three English or writing-intensive courses
- Microbiology: MCDB 131 or 139
- Immunology: MCDB 138 9. Anatomy: Please see below*
- Physiology: EEMB 23 or MCDB 111*
- Statistics: PSTAT 5LS or 120A
- Psychology: PSY 1 (or equivalent)
*UCSB does not offer an anatomy course or a physiology lab. Students may complete these prerequisites at any community college or any accredited four-year institution.
