The following is a list of recommended courses at this institution that will fulfill the minimum prerequisites for Berkeley Optometry. Advanced upper-division courses in these subjects may be substituted for any of the lower-division courses listed below. Courses have to be taken for a letter grade. Courses for which AP credit was received may be counted as long as they are listed on your college transcript. Our office has updated these courses to the best of our knowledge based upon the school catalog. Please contact us if you find discrepancies with our articulation; for instance, a change in the course number and title.

  • General Chemistry (Lecture and Lab): CHEM 127, 128, 129 or CHEM 124, 125, 126
  • Organic Chemistry (Lecture and Lab): CHEM 216 or CHEM 312
  • Biochemistry (Lecture only, Lab preferred): CHEM 314
  • General Biology (Lecture and Lab): BIO 111, 161, 162, one upper-division level BIO course (4-5 units)
  • General Physics (Lecture and Lab): PHYS 121, 125, 122 or PHYS 141*, 142, 143
  • Anatomy (Lecture only, Lab strongly recommended): BIO 231**, 232** or BIO 406***, 407***, 408***, 409***
  • Human Physiology (Lecture and Lab): BIO 231**, 232** or BIO 406***, 407***, 408***, 409***
  • Microbiology (Lecture only, Lab optional): MCRO 221 or MCRO 224
  • Calculus: MATH 141
  • Statistics: STAT 217 or STAT 218
  • Reading & Comp: ENGL 134, 145, 147 or other writing-intensive courses
  • Psychology: PSY 201

  • * One more semester of Physics lab is required.
  • ** BIO 231 and BIO 232 must both be completed in order to fulfill the Anatomy and Physiology requirements.
