This year, the annual American Academy of Optometry (AAO) meeting took place in New Orleans, Louisiana from October 11th-14th. We hosted several events during Academy for our alumni and friends; which united ODs from different generations with engaging conversations, insightful discussions, and a shared enthusiasm for the progress and advancements in optometry.
40 Under 40 Ceremony
Our 40 Under 40 Ceremony, the centerpiece event, celebrated the accomplishments of 40 young alumni under 40 who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the field. The honorees were recognized for their dedication, innovation, and impact on eyecare and the optometry and vision science community. The 40 Under 40 Ceremony demonstrated the promising future of optometry and vision science through the extraordinary accomplishments of these exceptional professionals. Young Alumni Luncheon
In conjunction with the 40 under 40 awards was our Young Alumni Luncheon, a gathering focused on fostering a sense of community and engagement among our young alumni. The luncheon provided a relaxed atmosphere for networking, idea exchange, and building connections within the optometry and vision science community. The event emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of leaders in the field.
Alumni and Friends Reception
The Alumni and Friends Reception was an opportunity for all attendees to come together in a more informal setting, reinforcing existing relationships and establishing new connections. Professionals, alumni, and friends of the AAO gathered to celebrate accomplishments and strengthen bonds within the optometry community.
The highlight of the reception was the acknowledgment of this year’s alumni award recipients and the Tony Adams Eminent Service Award recipient: Dr. Ian Bailey. Congrats to Dr. Mika Moy, recipient of the Ellerbrock Teaching Award. Congrats too to the many students and residents who received awards!
