Academy 2022 took place in San Diego from 10/26 – 10/29. See below for a recap of the event, from the perspective of third-year optometry student, Eloisa Morfin.
“The American Academy of Optometry is an association of optometric professionals who strive to stay at the top of their field. You will find like-minded colleagues within the American Academy of Optometry, an organization committed to promoting the art and science of vision care through lifelong learning. This year, Academy was held in sunny San Diego where students, residents, and doctors had the chance to reunite. Students attended educational lectures, poster presentations, and browsed the exhibit hall, learning about new products and innovations. Congrats to all Berkeley students, residents, faculty and alumni that received awards and presented their research! This year was especially special because we got to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of The Academy and the start of Berkeley Optometry’s centennial celebrations.

Now that I am seeing my own patients, it was so great to be able to learn about new technology in the exhibit hall, and have the opportunity to network with optometrists in all different types of practice modalities. Additionally, there is so many great student events like the Student Fellowship and quiz bowl. Shoutout to Amy, BaoChau, and Michelle! Academy is something that I look forward to every year and can’t wait to continue the tradition with future colleagues for years to come.” – Eloisa.
