The Bay Area Optometric Council (BAOC) is comprised of the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society (ACCCOS), Santa Clara County Optometric Society (SCCOS), San Mateo County Optometric Society (SMCOS), and San Francisco Optometric Society (SFOS). The BAOC Board consists of the most influential members of the optometric community in the Bay Area, including: the presidents & president-elects of all 4 local societies, a COA Board of Trustees member, a VSP representative, and a UCBSO student representative among other members. The Alameda and Contra-Costa Counties Optometric Society (ACCCOS) is the local society encompassing the Berkeley and East Bay Areas.
As a student at UCBSO, you have the opportunity to attend local society general membership meetings (GMM) all over the Bay Area and network with local optometrists almost every month! Every year there is a BAOC-Berkeley Mentorship Program (BBMP) in which UCBSO students are paired with local practicing doctors, and have the opportunity to network and shadow them throughout the school year.
If you are interested in organized optometry and working with local OD’s, please sign up for BBMP and/or to these membership meetings when invitations are sent to the student body via email.
