Professor of Clinical Optometry
Occasionally, we will post jobs for Professor of Clinical Optometry (PCO). This is a fairly unusual position in our field, so we wanted to provide a definition, as well as links to profiles of our faculty that currently hold this position.
Professors of Clinical Optometry are academically and clinically qualified people normally full time in the service of the University whose predominant responsibilities are in teaching and clinical service, but who also engage in creative activities. Each of our PCOs has a different allocation of job responsibilities. For example, some spend 20% of their time in the clinic, while also teaching and doing research; others have a 50% clinic appointment, with less emphasis on teaching and research. Funding for these positions can come from a variety of sources.
