Student OD Project Grants (CAAO)
Selection to receive a grant from the California Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry (CAAO) is determined on a competitive basis.
The ranking of projects is done by a panel of optometrists involved in both clinical care and patient-oriented research who are not directly affiliated with either of the California schools: Berkeley Optometry (UCBSO) and Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). Students who win this award will receive financial support toward their OD research projects.
Support for these grants is provided by dues collected from CAAO members. In addition, funding for this year's grants was aided by generous support from Vistakon.
For more information, see CAAO.

What is the CAAO?
The California Chapter of the American Academy of Optometry (CAAO) is composed of California doctors who are members of the American Academy of Optometry. The mission of the CAAO is two-fold. First, as an arm of the Academy, our function is to be a conduit for membership in the parent body and to provide a forum for collegial exchange at the Academy's Annual Meeting. Our second role is to stimulate student education and research on a local level to enhance the profession of optometry. Toward that end, grant support is provided for several student research projects at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry and the Southern California College of Optometry. The applications for OD Project Grants is due February 1st every year. Announcements of winners is made May 1st.
