Mission Statement

 

Our mission is to advance the practice of primary vision care, specialized optometric practice, and vision science research through:

  • the selection of an excellent, well-balanced faculty and staff, and the most promising students whose talents and backgrounds will be responsive to society.
  • the provision of state-of-the-art clinical environments and research laboratories.
  • an review process that ensures a dynamic curriculum.

We are committed to providing a program that:

  • values curiosity, creative thinking, a humane and ethical orientation, professional integrity.
  • sustains internationally acknowledged excellence.

Our optometry graduates are trained to be primary eye and vision care providers of the 21st century; our residents are trained in the cutting-edge aspects of their chosen specialties; our vision science graduates will advance the knowledgebase of vision and eye care and the fundamental bases of vision and vision disorders. In doing so, they will advance the practice of clinical optometry and the prevention and remediation of sight-threatening disorders. Both clinical and vision science graduates will provide leadership in optometric and ophthalmic programs and at universities throughout the world.
