Positions & Practices Guidelines

"Positions and Practices" are listed as a service to the optometric community. Berkeley Optometry reserves the right to edit or refuse any listing. These are NOT positions & practices offered by the University of California, Berkeley or Berkeley Optometry, and neither assume any responsibility as to genuineness, accuracy, correctness, compensation, or requirements.

Yellow Alert Sign Please read ALL the instructions below BEFORE sending us your listing. Very limited staff time is available for posting advertisements. If you submit a listing that requires substantial editing or violates the conditions of these Guidelines, we will not post it, nor will we contact you to ask for corrections.

Current Listings: OD Positions & Practices

What kinds of listings are acceptable? We accept ONLY the following as free listings:
  • Optometrist (OD) Positions: You may list positions that you have to offer or indicate that you are searching for employment as an optometrist.
  • Private Optometric Practices: Individuals may list practices for sale or partnership, or post requests to purchase such optometric practices.

We do NOT accept listings from brokers (agents who sell optometry practices for the owners).

Other types of listings we do NOT accept:

While our intention is to promote the profession of optometry, we are not an all-purpose employment service. So we ...

  • do not list jobs for support personnel (such as opticians, lab technicians, office managers, receptionists, or sales/marketing staff).
  • do not list equipment for sale.
  • do not list spaces for lease (unless they are for optometrists to join existing optometric/ophthalmological practices).
  • do not accept listings that merely direct the reader to other websites.
  • do not include links to other websites, even in otherwise acceptable listings. You must include the details and contact information for specific positions or practices within your listing.
  • do not list individual sales from practice brokers.

Is there a
charge for
listings?
The following listings are free:
  • Optometrist (OD) positions (full-time, part-time, or temporary)
  • Private optometric practices for sale or partnership when submitted by the individual owners (listings of any kind by brokers are not accepted)
  • Requests for OD positions wanted by licensed ODs
  • Requests to purchase optometric practices

How do I submit or correct a listing? To list a position, remove a listing, make corrections, or request significant wording changes:
  • NOTE: Due to the overwhelming amount of SPAM, we do cannot provide a direct email link. You must copy, paste, and modify the following into the address line of your email message:

EMAIL CONTACT:
Type or copy/paste the following 3 parts as a continuous email address (no spaces):

optometry-web
@
berkeley.edu
  • Send ONLY as plain text inside an email (do NOT send attachments).
  • Include all information within a SINGLE PARAGRAPH (do not use lists, indentations, etc.).
  • Do not self-promote if you are a job placement service --- simply describe the available position.
  • In the subject line of your email header, begin with words such as "Optometric Listing" — this will help us distinguish your email from the hundreds of SPAM messages we receive each day.

Will revisions move the listing to the top of the web page? No. Changes to an existing listing will not move the listing higher up (i.e., lower number) on the web page, regardless of how substantial the changes might be.

How long will my listing remain on the web page? Positions are listed for up to two months maximum, unless the position must be filled in less time or until we are told that the position has been filled.

May I relist a position before its expiration date? No. If you already have a position listed, please do not re-send the same listing before its expiration date. Duplicates will not be accepted. Re-list the position after expiration.

May I list more than one position within the same practice? Yes. You may send two or more different listings for the same optometric or ophthalmological practice. We reserve the right to combine positions into one listing, if appropriate (e.g., a part-time and a full-time position in the same practice).

How quickly will my listing appear? We attempt to post listings in as timely a manner as possible, but we cannot guarantee how quickly a listing will appear on the website. Please be patient and send your listing early enough to accommodate delays in posting.

Will you confirm when my listing is ready? No. Positions and Practices are updated only on an occasional basis. We do not have the staff time to confirm whether or not listings have been completed.

Will you write or rewrite the listing for me? No. We reserve the right to edit listings or refuse any listing, but you must write your own listing.

In general, please follow the style of the listings already on the Position-Listings web page. Provide essential information about the nature of the position or practice, and include contact numbers (telephone, fax, e-mail, and/or mailing address) and location (city and state). Please keep your listing as brief as possible — excessively long listings will not be accepted.

Note: Use standard English. If you submit a listing that requires significant editing, we will not post it, nor will we have the time to contact you for revisions.

  • Do not use ALL CAPS.
  • Do not capitalize every key word.
  • Do not use all lower case letters (capitalize according to standard rules of English usage, i.e., first words in sentences, names of cities, days of the week, etc.).
  • Do not use exclamation points — they will be deleted. (!)
