Overview of the UCB-CRC

Integrating Clinical and Basic Science Research for Improved Quality of Life

The primary objective of the University of California, Berkeley Clinical Research Center (UCB-CRC) is to work closely with industry, foundations, and government to design and evaluate innovations in patient care.

To accomplish this goal, the UCB-CRC has created an interdisciplinary initiative that combines clinical research, basic science, epidemiology, and patient care. We offer the expertise of clinicians and faculty from the UC Berkeley departments of Optometry, Vision Science, Public Health, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Psychology, Neuroscience, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Genetics, and Physics.

Highlights

Patient-based research located at a center serving a diverse multicultural population comprising ~ 60,000 annual patient visits

Interdisciplinary research and clinical teams investigating and developing strategies for disease diagnosis and prevention, and treatments of visual and health anomalies

Partnerships with private and public research institutions to determine the efficacy, feasibility, and safety of health-care products related to contact lenses, pharmaceuticals, vision therapy and rehabilitation, and computer vision

Facilitation of patient-based research adhering to the highest clinical and ethical standards
