Timetable for Admissions

Note: For Fall 2008 entry, the application link will be active in mid-September.

Suggested Timetable to Prepare for Admission

You should prepare the following, during your junior undergraduate year, if you intend to apply for entry into Berkeley Optometry the Fall semester immediately after graduation. For propsective students who have already graduated, you may also use this timetable as a reference and may contact the admissions coordinator (Ask an Advisor) if you have additional questions.

Month Recommended or Required Preparation
April-June Renew and establish contact with professors and optometry professionals for Letters of Recommendation by the close of the summer of your junior year.

UC Berkeley students should contact the Pre-Professional Student Advising Office to discuss your preparation and strategy for application. The UCB Foresight Pre-Optometry Club may also be a useful source of information. Please note that membership in Foresight is open to non-UCB students and that all are welcomed to join! Also, for those applicants outside of the Bay Area, we would encourage you to join a Pre-Optometry or Pre-Health Professions Club offered at a local college or university.

Schedule an "Ask an Advisor" appointment if you have any prerequisite questions for Berkeley Optometry. Advising sessions are by phone on Wednesdays and in-person on Fridays. To set up an appointment, please contact our Admissions Coordinator via email at admissions@optometry.berkeley.edu.

You can download the Letter of Recommendation Cover Form in PDF format. Please do not submit your supplemental materials for Fall 2008 entry until August 10, 2007.

June-September Prepare for the OAT.

One recommended source of information is Top Score Pro for the OAT by Scholarware. You can find out more about their products at their website www.scholarware.com. Local bookstores and online booksellers also sell OAT study guide materials. Some students may benefit from taking a test preparation course taught by professional services. Also, some students have found MCAT and DAT practice test and study guides beneficial.

September-November Berkeley Optometry Admissions asks applicants to adhere to the self-managed application instructions outlined under "Application Overview" on our website. During these months, applicants should be in touch with their recommenders to make sure their letters will be completed in a timely manner and that their transcripts have been ordered.
December December 1, 2008 is the final date to sit for the OAT. On December 15, 2008 at 11:59pm PST, all online applications must be submitted, and all supporting documents (letters of recommendation and transcripts) must be *received*, not postmarked, by this date.
