Optometry Admission Test (OAT)

exam picThe OAT is prepared and administered by the Optometry Admission Testing Program at the direction of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO - OAT).

The OAT is now available only online. Testing is available year round and an examinee can select the date, time, and place to test.

In addition, examinees receive their scores immediately after the completion of the test at the test center.

Finally, please see OAT Score Revision to review information pertaining to the 2009 Revision to the Score Scale for the Optometry Admission Test.

Due to the processing time it will take for official OAT scores to be received by our office in time to meet our application deadline, you must take the OAT by December 1, 2009. We will not consider OAT test scores taken after December 1, 2009 for the 2009-2010 admissions cycle.

Applicants will also be asked to self-report their OAT scores on the OptomCAS application. If the OAT has not been taken, the applicant will be asked for the planned test date.

An applicant's most recent set of OAT scores must be no earlier than two years (24 months) prior to the opening of the current OptomCAS session. Therefore, for the 2009-2010 application cycle, we will only accept OAT scores from tests taken from July 15, 2007 until December 1, 2009.

At the completion of your testing appointment, you will receive an unofficial score report at the Prometric Testing Center. The unofficial score report is audited for accuracy before official scores are reported to the optometry schools requested on your OAT application. No other score report will be sent to you.

The OAT application fee includes reporting scores to five optometry schools.
