A Message to Alumni and Friends

Inside you will discover how your school is touching countless lives — students, patients, educators, and colleagues. We are are all extremely grateful for the support from alumni and friends of the School of Optometry, and we thank you and encourage your continued support of the work we do in preparing future generations of practitioners and educators.

While we know you want better and more frequent communication from us, be assured that we also want to hear from you. Please, stay in touch and let us know how we are doing to meet your needs as alums. We know that our responsibilities to you do not end upon your graduation!

If you have a private practice, please consider putting Berkeley Optometry Magazine in your waiting room after you are finished reading it — if you need an additional hard copy, please let us know. Perhaps the magazine will encourage some of your younger patients to consider a career in optometry!

2012	The fifth issue of Berkeley Optometry Magazine features articles on perceptual learning (video games and amblyopia), humanitarian efforts worldwide, glaucoma certification through the online BOLD program and the grand rounds program, and alumni benefits and the newly reorganized Berkeley Optometry Alumni Association. There is also a message from the dean, letters to and comments from the editor, and an interview with our new director of philanthropy, along with sections on student focus, news & notes, spotlight on three new professors of clinical optometry, class notes, the campaign for Berkeley Optometry and other school support, Meredith Morgan Society, endowments, and the Benjamin Wheeler Society.
2011	The fourth issue of Berkeley Optometry Magazine features articles on prevention of diabetic retinal complications, humanitarian efforts around the globe, origins of the famed Orinda Study, life with guide dogs, and philanthropy in public education. There is also a message from the dean, letters to and comments from the editor, and an interview with our new executive director of alumni relations, along with sections on student focus, news & notes, faculty spotlight, class notes, alumni benefits, school support, Meredith Morgan Society, endowments, Benjamin Wheeler Society, and capital campaign.
2010	The third issue of Berkeley Optometry Magazine features articles on pediatric vision care, international humanitarian efforts, working with China to establish that country's educational program for vision care pratitioners, and a brief history of the Optometry Alumni Association of UC. There is also a note from the dean, letters to the editor, and sections on news & notes, student focus, faculty spotlight, Berkeley Optometry Hall of Fame, alumni benefits, class notes, school support, Meredith Morgan Society, endowments, the Benjamin Wheeler Society, and the capital campaign.
2009	The second issue of Berkeley Optometry Magazine features "Researching the Cornea's Resistence to Infection," "Lymphatic Pathway—A New Frontier in Eye Research," and "Berkeley Optometry's Humanitarian Efforts around the Globe." There is also a note from the dean, letters to the editor, and sections on news & notes, student focus, faculty, alumni benefits, class notes, school support, and the executive assistant for external relations.
2008	The inaugural issue of Berkeley Optometry Magazine. Feature articles include "Thanks to Berkeley...", "The Early Years of Berkeley Optometry," "New Views of the Human Retina," Research on Myopia," Berkeley Optometry's Clinical Research Center," and "Building for Excellence and Leadership." There is also a note from the dean, a letter from the editor, and sections on fiscal news, faculty, alumni benefits, class notes, school support, and the director of philanthropy.
