California State Senator Ed Hernandez, OD will present the keynote lecture titled "Vision Care in California: New Directions, New Opportunities" and will receive the 2014 Meredith Morgan Memorial Award.

As Chair for the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Hernandez has been deeply involved in many health and vision care bills and issues that may impact optometry and medicine in the near future:

- Optometry Practice Act (SB 492)
- Health Care Reform and Covered California
- New Pediatric Vision Benefits
- Affordable Care Act
